Let’s play two

After last night’s rainout, the Zephyrs play their first doubleheader of the season tonight. The Z’s went 105 games into the season before their first postponement, a club record. Luck has to run out sometime, right?

Two seven-inning games tonight, which is Military Appreciation Night – all military families get in free with military ID. The lineup for Game 1:

Back home (at last)

After 16 days away from home, the Zephyrs are finally back at the “Shrine” to open an eight-game homestand tonight against the Iowa Cubs. The Z’s went 6-6 on their longest road trip of the season, winning the final two games in Albuquerque. 25 of the next 37 games are in New Orleans, leading up to Labor Day weekend.

Day 10 of 12

The Zephyrs are on their longest road trip of the season and Saturday is game ten of 12.

Friday was one of the longest days of the season. The Z’s traveled from Round Rock to Albuquerque. The game had a one hour rain delay and then lasted nearly three and a half hours. It also was a late inning loss.

The Zephyrs have been swinging the bats, batting .329 on the trip and have scored 66 runs, thats 7.33 runs per game!

The Z’s roster is changing again. New Orleans released lefty Mariano Gomez and will add Pete Andrelczyk from the disabled list,

The Marlins have optioned Chris Volstad and he join the team in a few days.

Z’s add Darin Downs

New Orleans has placed reliever Frank Mata on the disabled list retroactive to July 17 due to right
bicep tendonitis. Over his last eight appearances, Mata had yielded 10 runs in 7.1 innings (12.27 ERA).

Darin Downs has been promoted from Class AA Jacksonville, where he was 2-5 with a 4.83 ERA in 76.1 innings, including 13 starts.

Z’s have dropped three in a row and fallen to 11 games back of first place.

Z’s go for 7 in a row

The Zephyrs have won six in a row and making a playoff push. The Z’s have 51 games remaining and are 8 games back of first place. The Z’s still have 8 games remaining with first place Round Rock and 8 games with second place Albuquerque.

The Z’s have won six in a row and in the stretch are batting .297 and have a team ERA of 2.45.

In last nights 9-2 come from behind win, the Z’s scored all nine runs with two outs.

Z’s continue the 12 game road trip tonight in Nebraska. Its expected to be HOT! 109 Heat Index at first pitch.

The Zephyrs wrap up the first half of the 2011 season this afternoon against the Iowa Cubs, in search of their first sweep of a home series since May 2008, when they took four straight from Albuquerque.

Trip ends today

The Zephyrs 9 day, 8 game road trip ends tonight in Iowa. The Z’s have dropped 6 of 7 on the trip and have lost 17 of their last 22 road games.

On this trip the Zephyrs have been outscored 44-22. The Z’s have defeated Iowa in 4 of the 7 meetings in 2011.

The Z’s open a seven game home set on Monday night with a special 4th of July Fireworks Celebration!
