The Roster Shuffle
Ther Zephyrs wrap up the series in Memphis today with a day game starting at 11AM.
The line up looks a a bit different than it has recently. Not sure if its a record, but the Zephyrs have made ten roster moves in less than 24 hours.
Thats a lot of turnover. Especially for a team that has been pretty stable. The Z’s roster has made a total of 53 moves through today. A year ago on the same date the roster had 104 moves.
The Z’s made a flurry of roster moves on Wednesday. The Marlins promoted pitcher Elih Villanueva to make his Major League debut yesterday, he was optioned back after the game. To make room on Florida’s 40-man roster, the Marlins designated catcher Brad Davis for assignment. The Marlins also promoted infielder Jose Lopez, who was 6×14 in four games with the Zephyrs since signing a minor league contract with Florida last week. The Zephyrs added infielder Ozzie Martinez, who went 2×12 in his second big league stint this season. The Z’s have also added catcher Gregg Glime from Class A Jamestown, and outfielder Dewayne Wise, who signed a minor league deal and was assigned to New Orleans. Wise was in spring training with the Marlins, batting .250 with 10 RBI in 18 games before opting out of his contract and signing with Toronto. Wise hit .338 in 31 games with Las Vegas before being released on June 2.
Today the Zephyrs have placed pitcher Mariano Gomez on the disabled list and added pitcher Pete Andrelczyk from Jacksonville.
Thats ten moves in less than a day. Time to to play ball!
