Under the sun in Iowa

Z’s and Cubs will play the final game of a 4 game series this afternoon at 12 noon. The sun is shining and we are in for a great day of baseball.

The Zephyrs have scored a season high 11 runs on Friday and Sunday. NOLA was also shutout on Saturday night. The Z’s are batting .271 and have scored 22 runs in the series. The Zephyrs have allowed 14 runs and have a 4.28 ERA. The leadoff man, Vinny Rottino has reached base 10 times in the series and has scored 4 times.

The Z’s are 7-2 in day games this season. The Zephyrs are averaging 6.44 runs per game in day games and 3.62 runs per game in night contests.

The Z’s will turn to Jay Buente for his fourth start of the season this afternoon. He is the league leader with a 1.35 ERA. He has not allowed a run in his last 14 innings pitched. He started the season in the bullpen and made 5 relief appearances before mobbing into the rotation. As a starter he has allowed 2 runs in 18 innings pitched.

The Z’s have won two consecutive series wins, a victory today would bring a third consecutive. The Z’s did not win three series in a row last year and have not won 3 in a row since 2007. NOLA turned 2 more double play’s on Sunday, it was the Z’s 38th double play of the season, tied for 2nd in the PCL.

The Z’s won 6 of 8 during their recent homestand. The Z’s head home to begin a series with Salt Lake on Tuesday. The Z’s are in a stretch of 24 of 32 games at Zephyr Field.
