Dominguez fractures elbow
Before the Zephyrs even officially took the field, they have already been dealt a significant setback.
Third baseman Matt Dominguez, the top-ranked prospect in the Florida system, fractured his left elbow when he was hit by a pitch in the Zephyrs’ spring training game Thursday and will miss approximately six weeks. Dominguez had a chance to win the Marlins’ starting third base job during the spring but was sent to minor league camp last week after batting .209 in 43 at-bats.
Veterans Ruben Gotay, Joe Thurston and Mike Cervenak figure to pick up more playing time in Dominguez’s absence.
