Mendez to start in emergency

The
Zephyrs continue the four-game road trip today with the third game of a series
against the Iowa Cubs.   Series is tied
at one. 

 

The
Z’s and Cubs split a four-game tilt at Zephyr Field May 3-6. 
New Orleans has nine wins in their last
14 meetings with the I-Cubs. In eight of the nine victories, the Zephyrs have
limited
Iowa to two runs or fewer, including three
shutouts, and three games allowing just one run.

 

Adalberto Mendez makes his 1st start of
the season today for the Zephyrs.  He
replaces Rick VandenHurk, he will be promoted tomorrow to the Marlins.  Mendez has not made a start since 2007.  He made 5 starts for the Daytona Cubs.  Mendez has made 12 appearances between
New
Orleans
and Jacksonville
and is 2-1, 2.17 ERA between the two stops.

 

The Z’s continue to make roster moves, New
Orleans
has made 95 player moves this
season.  At this point last season the
club had made 62 moves.  The Z’s finished
with 156 moves in 2009.  The moves today include
activating John Raynor from the DL. 
New
Orleans
will also add outfielder Brett
Carroll from the Marlins.  The Z’s will
add pitchers Kyle Gunderson from AA and Bryan Evans from Jupiter.   Tim Wood has been optioned to the Zephyrs
and will join the team on Tuesday.  The
Zephyrs have assigned outfielder Hunter Mense to Class AA.  The Z’s will promote Emilio Bonifacio and
Rick VandenHurk to the Marlins  on
Tuesday. 

 

         
It has rained 17 of the last 20 days in the city
that Zephyrs have played in. 

         
Monday’s game had a rain delay, 9th delay
of 2010.
