Memorial Day
Memorial
Day at Zephyr Field, The Z’s will honor the Military today and offer free
tickets to everyone and their families with a Military ID!
The Zephyrs
and Redhawks will meet in the final game of the series. NOLA will send Burke Badenhop to the mound,
he is the 8th different pitcher to start a game for the Z’s this
season and the 45th player to wear the uni! That’s 72 transactions we have made so
far.
The Z’s
activated Scott Strickland from the DL,
he will return to the bullpen. To
make room Jose Rosario will be assigned to Jacksonville.
Yesterday’s
2:50 rain delay was the longest this season and one of the
longer ones in Zephyr Field history. A
far cry from the longest ever. A 6 hour
delay.

The Z’s 5 game win streak was snapped last night and NOLA is now 4.5 back of 1st place.

LO-MO is back
The Zephyrs have added 1b Logan Morrison to the roster. Lo-Mo opened the season with the Z’s and was injured in a fluke play against Round Rock. He has been on the disabled list for a month. He played four games at Class A Jupiter before rejoining the Zephyrs on Monday.
The Z’s are 11-3 in games Morrison starts.
Raynor to DL
The Z’s have dropped three consecutive and look to salvage a game on Sunday afternoon in Tacoma.
John Raynor was placed on the disabled list on Sunday, retroactive to 5/22. He was injured on Friday running to first base. He strained a hamstring on a cold wet evening.
The Z’s head to Portland after the game and open a four game set vs. Beavers.
Shooting blanks
The Zephyrs pitched their fourth shutout of the season yesterday, tying them for the league lead. It was the third time they blanked the opponent in the last 11 games, as the pitching staff lowered its ERA for the month to 3.43, fifth-best in the PCL. Ryan Tucker hopes to keep the trend going tonight and snap a personal four-game losing streak.

Salute the Military
It’s a wet day around Southeast Louisiana, but we’re planning on playing baseball at the Shrine. It’s Military Night, so all military personnel and their families receive FREE admission with a military ID. Lots of activities going on tonight: military vehicles and the Navy Brass Band on the plaza, the Z’s wearing camouflage jerseys that will be auctioned off during the game, and postgame fireworks!
After about 15 hours back in New Orleans, Bryan Petersen has been recalled by the Marlins. Taking his roster spot is Lorenzo Scott, an outfielder who was hitting .246 at Double-A Jacksonville. Watch the video below, and it’s easy to tell this guy was an All-Conference and Butkus Award watch list linebacker at Ball State. The clip is Scott scoring the game-winning run in last night’s game in Jacksonville.

Cousins to DL, Rooster returns
Zephyrs outfielder Scott Cousins slammed into the outfield wall last night, and has landed on the Zephyrs 7 day disabled list with a shoulder strain. The Z’s roster turnover will continue today.
Bryan Petersen will rejoin the team tonight. Peterson was 1-for-9 with a run scored in a brief five-game stint with
the club.
John Raynor will also return to NOLA. Raynor was selected with the second pick in last December’s Rule 5
Draft. He was designated for an assignment by the Pirates two weeks ago
after starting the season 2-for-10 with a run scored with the Pirates. He has been at extended spring training the last week.
The Z’s host Fresno tonight in the final game of the series. The lineup:

Say cheese!
The Zephyrs snapped their team picture today before batting practice. Emilio Bonifacio used Zoolander’s “Blue Steel” look for the photo, so be careful when you pick up the picture as our giveaway item on Saturday, May 29th when the Z’s face Oklahoma City.
As for tonight, the Zephyrs look to break through against the Fresno Grizzlies, who own the PCL’s best record at 22-11. Here’s the lineup:

CF Cousins

Sunday at the Blatt!
Happy Mothers Day from the Heartland!
The Z’s have won two in a row and attempt to win a season best three in a row. Rosenblatt is a bit chili this morning, temps are in the 40′s and overcast and windy. Sweatshirts are on and everyone is looking for layers, this is May in the midwest.
Here is the line up as Stoney gets the ball for NOLA against former Z Phil Humber.

Raynor returning
Outfielder John Raynor, who led the 2009 Zephyrs in hits, runs and stolen bases, will be rejoining New Orleans shortly. Raynor was selected by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the Rule V draft over the offseason, and had to stick with Pittsburgh the entire season or be offered back to the Marlins for a $25,000 fee. The Pirates designated Raynor for assignment last week, and tried to work out a trade with the Marlins to retain Raynor, but were unable to do so, so the speedster is back in the Florida organization.
No Raynor tonight, but here is the lineup as the Z’s and I-Cubs conclude the four-game series:
