Leroux promoted, Bonifacio optioned
The Marlins made a pair of transactions on Wednesday, designating reliever Jose Veras for assignment and promoting Zephyrs right-hander Chris Leroux, who had allowed one hit in two innings over two scoreless outings. Taking Leroux’s place on the Z’s roster is right-handed reliever A.J. Battisto, who appeared in five games for the Zephyrs last August.
Also, the Fish activated outfielder Brett Carroll, who had been rehabbing an oblique injury at Class A Jupiter. To make room on the active roster, utility man Emilio Bonifacio was optioned to New Orleans. Bonifacio is expected to join the Zephyrs in Round Rock this weekend.
After ending a nine-game losing streak in Albuquerque last night thanks to some ninth-inning heroics, the Zephyrs and Isotopes continue the four-game set tonight with a dandy pitching matchup, featuring Rick VandenHurk and Scott Elbert. Both pitchers tossed six shutout frames in their season debuts last Friday, with Elbert striking out 10 Oklahoma City RedHawks in his outing.
