After winning three of four games in Las Vegas, the Zephyrs earned a
series split with Round Rock courtesy of yesterday’s 7-1 win. The
bottom half of the lineup had a great day, with Andy Gonzalez, Jai
Miller, John Purdom and Brad Davis combining to go 11-for-16,
highlighted by a 4-for-4 afternoon from Gonzalez.
But it’s been the pitching that has made the biggest strides lately.
Just two weeks ago, after a loss to Portland on May 17th, Zephyrs
starters had a season ERA of 7.53. Through 38 games, the rotation had
contributed just three quality starts. Things have turned around
lately, however, with six quality starts in the last seven games, and
the club has a 3.82 ERA over the last 10 contests. It certainly doesn’t
hurt having guys with Major League success such as Ricky Nolasco, John
Koronka and Rick VandenHurk joining the rotation.
The Z’s welcome Albuquerque to town for a five-game series beginning
tonight. Just a reminder that Thursday is a doubleheader, starting at
6:00 p.m. Come on out for Thirsty Thursday, and two games for the price
